I get irritated with people, including my own friends, who say they don't read. Some even say it with pride, as if it is cool not to read. Some even plaster it on their Facebook profiles with a little, "lol", after it. Well, it's not funny. I'm certainly not laughing out loud and neither are others.
Some say ignorance is bliss. I disagree. Ignorance can be dangerous. What you don't know can hurt you and often will.
Let me give you just 3 very good reasons you should be reading:
- You gain knowledge.
- You open up your imagination.
- You exercise your brain.

Love the Pratchett quote. I think it sums up the entire argument very well.
The concept of someone not reading is ridiculous. Ther are words everywhere and people are reading constantly - even if they aren't engaged i nthe art of sitting down with a book. More importantly, those people proudly proclaiming they don't read show this by their limited vocabulary and limited general knowledge. They have such a limited range of experiences. That isn't to say there are not other ways to get knowledge and experience, but books open so many more doors.

It's funny how many people will say they don't read, yet will happily open a newspaper, read a blog, read a magazine...
Books are the original (and still the best) content providers. If content really is king, then books are at the top of the tree. About time more people realized this.
